Emergency Medical Services

Here for You When You Need Us Most
At Pearce’s Mill Fire Department, we know that emergencies don’t just happen during fires—they can strike at any time, in many different ways. That’s why, alongside our fire protection services, we also provide emergency medical care at the EMT-Basic level. While we may not offer transport services ourselves, we work closely with Cumberland County Emergency Medical Services (CCEMS) to make sure our community gets the care they need, when they need it most.
What Our EMT-Basic Services Do
All of our firefighters are trained as EMT-Basics, which means they’re equipped to provide essential medical care right at the scene of an emergency. This training helps us offer basic life-saving services like CPR, bleeding control, oxygen therapy, and airway management—basically, all the things that can help stabilize someone until more advanced care arrives.
Our EMT-Basics are trained to assess a patient’s condition and offer support in situations like heart attacks, strokes, and trauma. While we don’t provide the same advanced medical care that paramedics do, our EMTs are fully capable of stepping in quickly to help keep a patient stable, making sure they get the care they need before CCEMS arrives. Every second counts in an emergency, and our team is ready to jump in and do everything we can to help.
Partnering with Cumberland County EMS (CCEMS)
We don’t work alone when it comes to emergency medical care—we team up with Cumberland County Emergency Medical Services (CCEMS) to provide the best care possible. When CCEMS is called, our EMT-Basics are often the first responders on the scene. This gives us a head start in providing care, stabilizing the patient, and making sure they’re comfortable until the paramedics arrive.
Once CCEMS shows up, we work together to make sure the transition from basic to advanced care goes smoothly. Whether we’re helping with oxygen, managing pain, or providing trauma care, we’re always ready to assist the paramedics. If needed, we’ll also help move the patient to the ambulance and ensure they’re safely on their way to the hospital. It’s all about teamwork to make sure the patient gets the best care possible, as quickly as possible.
We Don’t Provide Transport, But We’ve Got Your Back
It’s important to note that while we provide emergency medical services on-site, we don’t handle patient transport ourselves. That job belongs to the CCEMS paramedics, who have specialized equipment and ambulances to safely transport patients to the hospital.
Even though we don’t do the transport, our role is just as important. Our EMT-Basics are there from the very start, offering life-saving care and making sure everything is in place for a smooth handoff to the paramedics. This partnership between us and CCEMS allows each of us to focus on what we do best, ensuring the patient gets the best care from the moment we arrive.
We’re proud to provide emergency medical services at the EMT-Basic level and to partner with CCEMS to help our community in their time of need. Even though we don’t offer transport, we’re always here to provide that critical care at the scene and make sure help arrives quickly.
